The twelfth program of the series contains a discussion about How has Covid-19 affected the diverse group of disabled people and what can be done to make sure their needs aren’t neglected?

People with disabilities are used to facing obstacles not only in Pakistan but all over the world. As a group, they often struggle to access tailored education and are more likely to fall into poverty.

Their experience is far more widespread than you might think: 15 % of the global population has some form of disability. Information is often not accessible and too often people with disabilities are out of the public eye.

Mr. Zulqarnain Asghar president of Pothohar Mental Health Association in this program shared that in developing nations the pandemic has made things all the more challenging for disabled people.

Over-stretched healthcare systems and lockdowns mean many of the services they rely on day-to-day have disappeared. He further shared that there are loops and gaps in government policies to tackle the needs of people with disabilities.

But he also mentioned some of the programs launched by the government, such as a special card for people with disabilities. He also provided some solutions for challenges faced by people with disabilities.
